Re-formatted for Spring 2006 the ever-popular pocket guide series has been expanded in its attractive new format.

Irish Place Names is a handy reference book containing over 2,000 well-known place names from the length of Ireland with explanations of their various forms, together with a list of root words from which Irish place names are most commonly formed.

The range of names will enable readers to unravel the meanings of such colourful names as Cappoquin, Yellow Batter, Tyrella and Addergoole, discovering many items of local historical and geographical interest along the way. The section on root words will also enable readers to unravel the meanings of many other place names in addition to those in the main text. A useful introduction gives advise on pronunciation and linguistic variations.
